Access to Higher Education - Healthcare Professions Pathway

Course Overview
This course offers exciting opportunities for a range of degrees and subsequent careers in the health sector such as nursing, midwifery or other NHS related degree courses.
Our students often find that health education and social care degrees offer the best opportunity to work in the community and on successful completion of this course, you can automatically progress onto the Foundation Degree in Health and Wellbeing at Wakefield College. Choosing this course may help you gain the voluntary or professional experience in a health related environment which must be achieved prior to your UCAS application being sent in the following autumn term.

Assessment takes place through course assignments and examinations. Each six or three credit unit at Level 3 will be graded Pass, Merit or Distinction. Healthcare Research Methods and Study Skills are ungraded units but you must achieve a pass in these units to gain the Access to HE Diploma qualification.

Students who were under 24 as at the 31st August who do not already hold a Level 3 qualification (eg. A levels or Level 3 BTec) may not have to pay fees, this is dependent on your postcode.
All other students can apply for the Advanced Learner Loan to cover the fees. This is a type of student loan, but if you progress to university and complete your degree, the loan will be cancelled and consequently your Access course will be free. The Access to HE Healthcare profession allows students to develop their skills in preparation for progression to university, students who successfully complete this course progress to study:
