Course Overview

This transformative two-year programme is designed for individuals eager to explore the evolving world of modern manufacturing. The course is delivered at both Castleford College and Selby College, providing flexibility in location while offering consistent access to high-quality teaching and industry-standard facilities.

With a focus on both mechanical and electronic engineering, this course provides a broad foundation and prepares students for further study or a direct route into the engineering sector. What You Will Study

The curriculum covers a diverse mix of theory and practical content across core areas of engineering, including:

  • Engineering mathematics and principles
  • Computer-Aided Design (CAD)
  • Electronic principles and systems
  • Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs)
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Materials science and manufacturing technologies

Students will also develop a range of transferable skills such as communication, teamwork, and project management through collaborative and hands-on learning experiences

This is a fully assignment-based course, with no formal written examinations. Assessment methods include:

  • Written reports and case studies
  • Practical investigations and technical tasks
  • Individual and group presentations
  • Project-based assignments that reflect real-world engineering scenarios

Assignments are designed to mirror industry practices, helping students prepare for the expectations of future employment or higher education.

4 GCSEs at Grade 9-4, including English and two Sciences and a minimum of Grade 5 in Maths.

OR

An appropriate Level 2 qualification and GCSE Grade 9-4 in English and Maths will be considered.

BTEC Higher National Certificate in Engineering or an Engineering degree course.
