Course Overview

This course is ideal for those who want to work in the dog grooming industry either working in a salon, setting up in business in a salon, or working as a mobile dog groomer. You will need to have a good understanding of dog behaviour and a passion for working with dogs.

You will be provided with theory and practical demonstrations. You will undertake a range of practical skills development working with a range of different dogs and coat types.

What You Will Study

The modules of study include:

  • Prepare and groom dogs prior to bathing
  • Bathe and clean dogs
  • Clean and maintain equipment used for grooming or removing hair from animals
  • Control and restrain animals
  • Dry dogs and prepare their coats for styling
  • Basic trimming of a dog’s coat

On the day time course – one day per week over 30 weeks. The day course is currently planned to run on a Tuesday 10:00am - 3:00pm.

On the evening course – one evening per week over 30 weeks. The evening course is currently planned to run on a Thursday 4:00pm - 9:00pm.

You will produce a portfolio of evidence of your practical work, supported by some written assessments.

  • A good knowledge and understanding of how to safely approach and handle dogs
  • A passion for the dog grooming industry
